Uniarts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts is recruiting a
DEAN
to manage the internationally esteemed academy, known as a pioneer in artistic research, for a five-year term starting from 1 March 2024.
Uniarts Helsinki aspires to be a socially active contributor with a strong identity and a wide international appeal. We believe that art creates the future, and our goal is to highlight the impact that art can have on the success, culture and wellbeing of a society. The dean of the Academy of Fine Arts will have a key role in this work.
The Academy of Fine Arts is an international academy with a focus on independent art, offering high-quality teaching in sculpture, painting, printmaking and time and space arts. The Academy of Fine Arts also offers a Bachelor’s Degree Programme in History and Theory of Contemporary Art, a Praxis Master's Programme in Exhibition Studies as well as a Doctoral Programme in Fine Arts. The Academy of Fine Arts is one of the pioneers in the field of artistic research.
As the dean, you will ensure the implementation of Uniarts Helsinki’s strategy within the Academy of Fine Arts and manage the academy, especially its academic, artistic, pedagogical and research-related activities. You will be in charge of creating, monitoring and executing the academy’s operational and financial plan. You will work under the supervision of Uniarts Helsinki’s rector and serve as a member of the university’s executive group. You may also have university-level duties and responsibilities.
You are the person we are looking for if you have a strong expertise in one of the fields that the Academy of Fine Arts represents and are familiar with the field of contemporary art and the university world as a work environment. You have merits in artistic, scientific and pedagogical activities, good interaction and negotiation skills and the ability to manage a complex expert organisation. You are capable of working as a bridge-builder and understand the significance of cooperation beyond artistic fields. You have sufficient language skills to work both inside and outside of Finland. Your central qualities include a well-rounded management experience, a versatile knowledge of the fields that the academy represents, the ability to listen to the community and make its members feel included, and the competence to develop university teaching and research in the academy’s fields.
You have a master’s degree suited for the position; a doctoral degree is considered an advantage. The dean’s position is full-time. The terms of the employment relationship will be negotiated with the rector and determined in a separate contract.
