Postdoctoral Researcher/University Researcher

for a full-time fixed-term position (additional strategic funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture) for the period 1.2.2024-31.1.2026 (or by agreement).

Job description

Uniarts Helsinki participates in strengthening the impact of art in questions related to our digital, social and ecological future. An essential part of this work is the responsible and sustainable development and maintenance of digital working environments for art and its artistic research.

A person with experience in arts research and artist education in digital environments is sought for the position of University Researcher at the University of the Arts Helsinki Research Institute. The position strengthens Uniarts Helsinki's work community that utilises digital technologies and is located in the university's new Research Institute and the Sörnäinen campus. The person to be hired conducts independent and/or working group arts research in the field of digital art. They promote digital art production, research and education processes by managing their technical capabilities at the Sörnäinen campus.

The postdoctoral researcher/university researcher acts as a technical and production contact person in the research and education projects of the Magics infrastructure (magics.fi) between Uniarts Helsinki, Aalto University and Tampere University.

Competence requirements and selection criteria

Diverse practical expertise in the above-mentioned areas is a prerequisite for successful performance of the position, as is a doctoral degree in a relevant field. The position requires independent initiative, as well as the ability to act as a member and coordinator of production teams.

The position requires a good general knowledge of media technology, excellent general knowledge of digital technology and familiarity with machine learning and XR technologies. Experience in applying for complementary funding and building projects in the area of the position is considered an advantage.

Language skills

The languages of instruction at Uniarts Helsinki are Finnish, Swedish, and English. The position of postdoctoral researcher/university researcher requires excellent Finnish or English language skills. Language skills are assessed in relation to work tasks.

Working time and salary

Working hours are 1612 hours per year in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary for the position will be based on level 5-6 of the demands level chart for teaching and research personnel in the salary system of Finnish universities. The monthly salary at the beginning of employment will be approximately 3500-4400 eur, depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. The position has a trial period of 6 months.

The position requires working in Finland. Thus, the assignment requires the postdoctoral researcher/university researcher to reside in Finland for the duration of the employment relationship.
