The Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki is now opening the post of
for the Department of Early Music for a fixed period.
The main duty of the teacher is baroque bass and violone tuition. The students to be instructed are baroque bass and g-violone minors, and possibly also students from Junior Academy. In addition, the duties may include tasks related to the development of baroque bass and g-violone education and possible collaboration projects depending on the needs of the department and the selected candidate’s qualifications and expertise. Duties may also include jury work in exams and student admissions. Teaching and other tasks will be agreed together with the Head of Department at the start of each semester. Languages of tuition are Finnish and/or English.
The Sibelius Academy does not promise to provide teaching tasks, should there be no teaching needs during a semester, but if there is need for baroque bass and g-violone part-time teachers, we will offer work for the person who has been selected via this recruitment, too.
We will call the most suitable applicants for a demonstration of proficiency, which will be conducted in English and take place on Tuesday 27th May 2025. The demonstration will include teaching and artistic samples and an interview. The teaching sample will include teaching baroque bass repertoire to a student of bachelor- or master-level studies. Teaching tasks will be announced later. In the artistic demonstration, duration of 8 minutes, the candidate plays a piece / pieces (or movements of pieces) of free choice on both instruments. Sibelius Academy will arrange a pianist, but it is also possible to bring an accompanist of one’s own.

The position requires living and working in Finland for the duration of the employment relationship.
The position may include teaching underage students. A criminal record extract must be presented to Uniarts before a contract of employment can be signed for the job in question. The Act on Checking the Criminal Background of Persons Working with Children (504/2002) obliges Uniarts to ask persons working with people under 18 years of age to present an extract from their criminal record (when the employment lasts longer than three months).
