The Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki is now recruiting

Hourly-paid teacher of trumpet

for a fixed-term employment relationship starting in the fall 2026. The teacher will work in the Department of Winds, Percussion and Harp.

Job description

The students to be instructed are trumpet majors or minors, and possibly also students from the Junior Academy. In addition to teaching, the responsibilities may include jury work (level examinations). The working hours and tasks will be agreed with the Head of Department at the beginning of each semester. The language of instruction is Finnish and/or English.

The employment contract for a part-time teacher is made for one academic year at a time, depending on the needs of the department. The Sibelius Academy is unable to commit to offering, but if there is need for hourly-paid teachers in trumpet, we will offer work for the person who has been selected via this recruitment.

We expect you to have

Teaching skills and teaching experience Excellent command of the instrument Solid experience in orchestral playing, chamber music, and solo performances A willingness and ability to support students in their studies Good interpersonal and communication skills Good command of the English language Master of Music degree or an equivalent suitable university degree; a person with no master’s degree but considerable familiarity with the field in question may also be deemed qualified

The assignment requires that the teacher lives and works in Finland during the employment relationship.

Assessment event

We will call the most suitable applicants for the assessment event, which will be held on Wed 26 August 2026.

The assessment includes:

• Artistic performance, total duration 10-15 minutes: Two freely chosen works, or parts thereof. At least one of the works must be performed with piano accompaniment; the other may be a solo piece. The Sibelius Academy will provide a pianist for the performance, but alternatively applicants may also bring their own pianist.
• Teaching demonstration, 30-40 minutes. More detailed instructions will be provided with the invitation.
• Interview, approx. 15 minutes

The event may be conducted partly or entirely in English.
